DVAR TORAH Prior to the Exodus from Egypt, G-d told Moshe: "Please speak into the ears of the people and a man shall ask from his neighbor, and a woman shall ask from her neighbor utensils of silver and gold" [Exodus 11:2].
The Gerrer Rebbe -the Beis Yisrael asked the following question: Why did G-d have to encourage the Jewish people to take gold silver, using the word "please"? Since when has it EVER been necessary to ask someone to "Please take money"?
The answer is that the Jews instinctively knew that wealth is not only a blessing, but also a tremendous challenge. Would they be able to withstand the temptations of wealth and retain their dependence on G-d!? That is why G-d had to say, "PLEASE take the money" - because the Jews knew that this gift was fraught with danger.
In fact, added the Gerrer Rebbe, this also explains why G-d specifically used the word "v'Yishalu" (they should borrow) and NOT "v'Yikchu" (they should take). Because G-d wanted to remind the Jews, that all material possessions are on loan from G-d. Nothing truly belongs to us, except for our own faith and trust in G-d!

HALACHA OF THE WEEK: Nefilat Apaim On weekdays, Tachanun is recited after the Shemona Esrei of both Shacharit and Mincha, and according to Ashkenazic custom, the opening paragraph is recited “b’Nefilat Apayim” [lit. “falling on one’s face”]. (Sefardim do not do “nefilat apayim” and therefore, HaRav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach, ruled that an Ashkenazi davening in a Sephardi shul should not do it as well [Ishay Yisrael chapter 25, note 1].)
Typically, “nefilat apayim” is performed by leaning one's forehead on one’s left arm – while facing towards the right “in the direction” of the Shechina” [Rama, Orech Chaim 131:2; Mishna Brurah note 4]. However, if one is wearing tefillin on the left arm, the right arm is used instead out of respect for the tefillin [Rama, ibid.].
Nevertheless, the Vilna Gaon always used his left hand, even when wearing tefillin on that arm. But the Chofetz Chaim ruled that one should not deviate from the accepted practice of the shul me [Mishna Berurah ibid. note 6].
Interestingly, Rav Moshe Feinstein would put his arms together (for Shacharit tachanun) and fall on both of them, primarily on the right (as per the Rama). This way he followed both customs [Igrot Moshe Orech Chaim vol. 5 20:19; see also Aishel Avraham [Butchach] end of chapter 131).
Of course, a left-handed person who wears tefillin on his right hand should always cover the face with the left arm [Ishay Yisrael 25:8, note 32].
The Magen Avraham [131:2] writes that one should make sure to have one’s arm covered so that there will be a separation between the head and the floor (see Livushai Srad). While the Mishna Brurah [131:3] and Aruch Hashulchan [131:7] explain the reason is because a bare arm is not considered a covering.
Although the Shulchan Aruch [131:2] requires that tachanun be recited while sitting (due to Kabbalistic reasons – see Bet Yosef 131), the Magen Avraham [131:5] writes that the Rivash and Maharil permit one to stand for nefilat apayim. Therefore, while sitting is preferable, when it is not possible, one may be performed nefilat apayim even while standing [Aruch Hashulchan Orech Chaim 131:5].
